DoGooding®

Ever had a rough day and turned to chocolate, alcohol, shopping, drugs or some other external stimulus to get happy?  I am sure you have because they work! But only fleetingly. 

Money and chocolate and material things only make us short term happy.  The reward hormone is released but it’s short lived. Hence we go on a yet another binge soon after. And yet doing good releases the bonding hormone.  And that lasts a long long time.

The latest neuroscience reveals why. These things activate the Reward/Pleasure Hormone (Dopamine). But for lasting happiness we need another Hormone – the Bonding Hormone (Oxytocin) – to maintain that sense of happiness. You may be surprised to know that there are only four things that genuinely – we mean SERIOUSLY – flood the brain with both hormones. Doing Good is one of them.

We all know that when we help others we feel warmy warm inside. For many years this has been called the ‘helpers high’. Now the latest innovative neuroscience (monitoring brain chemistry), proves it. Doing good – whether it be an act of kindness, volunteering or donating – floods the brain with both Reward/Pleasure Hormone & Bonding Hormone. Darwin was misunderstood – humans may be born with a SELFISH gene (all too often seen these days) but as human beings we are WIRED to help others.
